Early life
Romain’s dad introduced him to golf when he was 2 years old and he got the golfing bug from the start. He made his first par at 4 and had his first handicap by 5.
He started to practice as much as possible at Saint Donat Golf Club in Grasse (South France) with coach Phillipe Lavron until the age of 13. He then spent 5 years as part of the French Federation training squads under the coaching of Matthieu Santerre for three years and then Cyril Gouyon for two while he got his baccalaureate STMG with honours.
Amateur career
Romain recorded eight major amateur victories in a stellar amateur career. He won the Spanish International in 2016 and most notably won the Amateur Championship in 2015.
This victory gained him entry to the Open at St Andrews where he made the cut (T65). He then became the first French Amateur to make the cut at the Masters in 2016. His back nine 31 on the Sunday also tied the record for the lowest back nine score by an amateur in Masters history and he came tied for 39th.
He turned professional in April 2016 as the #4 ranked Amateur in the world.
Professional Career
An outstanding maiden Challenge Tour season saw him finish runner-up three times and notch up three further top fives as he finished ninth in the Rankings.
He won his first title as a professional on home soil at the 2018 Hopps Open de Provence and went on to regain his European Tour card by finishing inside the top 25 at Final Stage. In 2019 he recorded 6 top 10s on the European Tour including 2nd at the South African Open and 3rd place at the Rolex Series Scottish Open.
Romain earned his maiden DP World Tour title at the ISPS Handa Wales Open in 2020 at Celtic Manor, overturning a five-stroke deficit in the final round with a tournament-low final round 65.
Romain has continued to be very consistent throughout his career. In 2023 he finished 28th in the Race to Dubai Rankings, his best ever finish, qualifying for the 2024 British Open.
